Top Essential Oils for Problematic Skin
Using essential oils for skincare is something I LOVE to share about because it's made a huge difference in my skin. I fell in love with doterra’s skincare products several years ago.
As women this is something everyone is going to care about, because we have skincare needs of all kinds. So I want to give you some clarity on this. You’ll definitely want to save this, so I encourage you to print this blog post & maybe keep it in your bathroom to remind you what to use - depending on what you're struggling with skin-wise in that moment.
Today I'm going to cover:
🔥 redness
⚡️ scars
🔴 breakouts
😎 brown/dark spots
💟 aging
I encourage you to jot down things you maybe want to try based on your own skincare needs, because we all have different needs, & we need to take care of our skin because it’s the only skin we have. 🙃

Top Oils for Beautiful Skin
Redness:
Redness is a very common skin problem & can come from a variety of things, but most is rooted in inflammation. There are a few great oils to support this problem.
👉 YARROW | POM BLEND
A combination of Yarrow essential oil, & cold pressed Pomegranate seed oil. Can be applied topically to revitalize aging skin. Can help with the appearance of blemishes. Can be taken internally for encouraging a healthy inflammatory response. It promotes healthy metabolic function.
I use this everyday on my face & I used to take a couple drops in my mouth, until they came out with the Yarrow/Pom supplement ... & that made it so easy & also had the added benefits of celery seed oil, frankincense, palmarosa oil, turmeric, & MELISSA oil! As well as Zinc, vitamin C, & grape seed ... which help with synthesizing collagen (collagen is what keeps your skin from sagging).
👉 Correct - X
Helps with soothing skin irritations. Petroleum free (unlike Neosporin) & doesn’t kill your good bacteria. This multi-purpose, natural ointment helps soothe skin and keep it clean while recovering from distress. It provides a moisture barrier that helps protect while simultaneously soothing + hydrating the skin. Absorbs quickly & is gentle and non-irritating, making it ideal for sensitive skin…I love it for putting around kid's mouths that get chapped from licking thru winter.
👉 Frankincense
Invigorates skin and helps maintain healthy skin structure. I love adding a drop to my moisturizer every day.
👉 Helichrysum
Known as “the everlasting flower”. Helichrysum has been used in herbal health practices since ancient Greece & the oil is highly valued and sought after for its many health benefits. Preclinical studies suggest that Helichrysum may support & protect the skin, & reduce the appearance of wrinkles + blemishes.
Scars:
Scars usually fade over time. But most of us would rather minimize the color & size while also speeding up the healing process.
👉 Geranium
Uses of Geranium essential oil date back to ancient Egypt when Egyptians used Geranium oil to beautify skin and for other benefits. Add a drop to your moisturizer for a smoothing effect.
👉 Yarrow/Pom
(Are you noticing this one comes up a lot???)
Helps inhibit the enzymes that breakdown elasticity & collagen. It promotes collagen production & supports cellular repair ... awesome duo … I use it everyday & take internally.
👉 Frankincense touch
This comes up a lot. It's easy to take out & roll right on scars. Great to keep a roller in your bathroom to use only on your face (vs. the same one you’ve used on feet)
👉 Neroli
Applied topically, it soothes the skin & reduces the appearance of blemishes.
Breakouts:
Breakouts are often associated with food sensitivities, hormones, or bacteria.
👉 Tea Tree (Melaleuca)
Tea Tree is best known for its purifying properties. It can be used to cleanse + purify the skin & support a healthy looking complexion. Great astringent - after washing face you can put on a cotton ball & put over face ... wonderful for cleansing. Also comes as rollerball if you want to keep it separate & in your bathroom. I actually gave each of my teenagers their own bottle & it was their go to ... works SUPER well.
👉 HD Clear
Apply right to acne ... pimples. The essential oils in HD Clear are not only used for their well-known benefits, they are also soluble through lipids in the skin, allowing for perfect absorption + effectiveness. HD Clear Topical Blend promotes a clear, smooth complexion for skin of all ages.
This oil does not come diluted, so you can actually split it into two rollers & dilute if you have sensitive skin (I love to use jojoba oil to dilute instead of FCO on the face because it mimics the skin the best ... a little more expensive, but better for the face)
👉 Rose Touch
Great for any & all skin problems. It can be used to balance moisture levels in the skin, reduce the appearance of skin imperfections, & promote a healthy + even skin tone.
Brown / Dark Spots:
Brown or dark spots can be caused by sun exposure, aging, & other hormonal pigmentation. I taught swim lessons & was out in the sun constantly for many year. It caught up with me as I've gotten older. The Verage Skin Care system & my frankincense have been huge for supporting this.
👉 Frankincense
Helps maintain healthy skin when applied topically ... you can use either the regular bottle or the Touch version in the roller, which has already been diluted to make it easy to use.
👉 Lavender
Known as the “swiss army knife” of oils. All things skin & calming ... supports healthy skin & soothes occasional irritations.
👉 Sandalwood
Thanks to its chemical constituent santalol, Sandalwood is beautifying to the skin. When applied topically, Sandalwood can minimize the appearance of blemishes, wrinkles, and skin imperfections. Mix a drop with your moisturizer to promote a healthy, clear complexion.
👉 Black Spruce
To soothe minor skin irritations, apply a drop or two of Black Spruce oil to the area. I use at night with my moisturizer (I actually alternate which oils I add to my moisturizer, between Black Spruce, Yarrow|POM, Myrrh & Blue Tansy). You could also use it with your toner if you like, instead of the moisturizer.
Aging:
Aging is seen as we get fine lines, wrinkles, & loose skin. It's happening to us all. The goal is to age more gracefully using natural products to support this process.
👉 Immortelle
So, so GOOD. Helps restore, tone, reduce the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles & blemishes...this stuff is the BEST. It contains Frankincense resin, hawaiian sandalwood, lavender, myrrh resin, helichrysum, & rose. It's a POWERHOUSE with some very precious & effective oils. I like using it straight, but I know people who will divide it between 2 bottles & dilute with FCO or jojoba oil (because it’s not diluted yet) ... that makes it half the price! Diluting it this way is also great if you have sensitive skin.
👉 Neroli
Soothes the skin & reduces the appearance of blemishes. ... so keeps the skin healthy & looking younger.
👉 Myrrh
Ancient records show that Myrrh was deemed so valuable it was valued at its weight in gold. It's been used throughout history as a perfume, incense, & health aid. It's soothing to the skin when applied topically—promoting a smooth, youthful-looking complexion. It's super beneficial for oral hygiene - AWESOME to add to your toothpaste for gum health (I do this every morning)
👉 Frankincense (again🙃)
Brown spots, scars, wrinkles, fine lines, redness ... all things aging. When in doubt use Frankincense.
