Top essential oil Green Cleaning options
Did you know there are oils that do a better job at killing germs than even Clorox? And Clorox is so toxic you would never hand it to your toddler to help you clean.
Did you know most of the chemicals in modern day cleaning products disrupt your hormones, contain cancer-causing ingredients, contribute to infertility, contribute to brain function problems, and affect the ability of children to focus?
Check out Environmental Working Group (www.ewg.org) for info on this.
There's no reason to deal with toxic cleaning products when it is so easy to make your own. Making your own will save you money, too. And in today's economy, that's more important than ever.
Bleach is so dangerous to breathe or get on your skin, so why not do some simple swaps with essential oils & avoid all those nasty toxic cleaning products in your home. They cost pennies on the dollar to make + they're super simple.
But if you don't want to DIY, doTERRA has a whole line of OnGuard products for your home. They also have a new line of products named “abode” that are also incredible for cleaning your home.

Top essential-oil-powered options for Green Cleaning
Lemon
For an awesome refrigerator & microwave cleaner, look no further than a bottle of Lemon essential oil. Add 15 drops of Lemon essential oil to 1 cup of white vinegar + 2 cups hot water. Put into a glass spray bottle. Spray mixture inside fridge or microwave, then scrub & wipe using a damp cloth. This has the added bonus of your being able to smell the refreshing scent of Lemon each time you open the fridge or microwave.
Purify
The stovetop is often home to some of the biggest & toughest stains in the kitchen. Splatter from spaghetti sauce, leftover grease, & caked-on residue can quickly cover the stove top, leaving you to scrub away the grime. Try this recipe for a natural stove top cleaner.
Stir together:
¼ cup baking soda
¼ cup salt
1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
2 tablespoons water
4-5 drops Purify essential oil
Spread this paste over the stove top & burners. Leave on for 15 minutes or longer for hard-to-remove stains. Using a sponge, scrub the mixture into the grime. Remove excess cleaner & wipe surface clean.
OnGuard + Breathe
To cleanse the air in your home (destroying harmful germs in the process to keep sickness from spreading), add 3 drops OnGuard & 3 drops Breathe to a diffuser. Diffusers are easy to use. Just add water & essential oils, & they emit a mist of small particles of oil into the air. One diffuser will cover one room.
Homemade Soft Scrub Cleanser (Lemon)
This Soft Scrub Bathroom Cleanser DIY is particularly helpful for removing stains, soap scum, & brightening the appearance of your toilet & tile.
In a bowl, combine:
¾ rounded cup baking soda
¼ cup unscented liquid castile soap
1 tablespoon water
Stir the above mixture then add:
1 tablespoon vinegar
5-10 drops Lemon essential oil
This should make a soft paste. Store in airtight container. To use, just apply & let sit 5-10 minutes, then scrub. After scrubbing take a wet cloth & wipe clean. Also great for kitchen sink & refrigerator.
Wild Orange, Arborvitae or Lemon
Here's a great natural polish for your wood furniture to bring the finish back to life & protect it. Add ¼ cup olive oil + ¼ cup vinegar to a glass spray bottle. Add 10 drops of either Wild Orange, Arborvitae, or Lemon (or a combination). Shake well before each use. Apply to a microfiber cloth & wipe wood surfaces clean. Repeat every 2-3 months or as needed.
