Top 8 Essential Oils for Camping and Outdoors
Summer Camping! Visiting national parks! Tis the season for stargazing, horseback riding, smores, swimming in lakes, hiking through wilderness & so much more!
Essential oils in your backpack will ensure you feel your best. You'll be ready for all the little emergencies you may have in the great outdoors. Oils for after sun care, oils for repelling bugs, oils for soothing occasional joint & muscle discomfort, & oils to keep you cool.
Top 8 Oils for OUTDOORS:
Deep Blue Stick + Copaiba
This stick combines two of my favorite oils for pain - Deep Blue & Copaiba. This stuff is magic! And the best part is that it's so easy when you're traveling because of the stick format. I used to always need to wash my hands after applying Deep Blue so I wouldn't accidentally touch my eyes and have them burning. With the stick you just unscrew it, apply it where needed, and you're good to go! No handwashing needed. Definitely keep it handy on all your camping, car trips, or hiking excursions.
Lavender
Sleeping somewhere other than your own bed can be difficult. Apply a drop of lavender to a pillow or sleeping bag to calm kiddos (or relax yourself) into a restful night's sleep no matter where you are. You can also bring a travel diffuser for the hotel room, tent, or car. Doterra makes a couple options that can be used cordless … the Pilot or the Roam diffuser (both are rechargeable).
TerraShield
Rub a couple drops onto your pulse points. Unlike normal bug spray, you don't have to spray everywhere. I typically rub a little on my neck, wrists, & ankles (wherever skin is exposed). It doesn't smell bad (like regular bug spray), but bug's hate it. It smells predominantly like Cedarwood. I love using something that doesn't contain the toxic chemicals bug spray does.
DigestZen
Take 1 drop in your mouth, then swallow a glass of water, or rub a little on your belly to alleviate upset stomach or stomach discomfort. Hint: I always do both methods together.
Peppermint
Take 1 drop by mouth & wash down with a glass of water to support clear breathing (whether you're stuffy from a cold, or just having a bad allergy season). This is also a great way to cool your body during a hot day. Add 10 drops to a 2 oz spray bottle, then top off with filtered water. Spray on arms, legs, and/or back of the neck to immediately cool the body. This works fantastic!
Take this on your next hike or to a baseball game!
Lemon
Swallow 1 drop Lemon, 1 drop Peppermint, & 1 drop Lavender either alone, or in a vegetable capsule, to combat seasonal environmental allergen problems. A couple of drops of Lemon added to every glass of water you drink also gets rid of that irritating tickle in your throat that seasonal allergies sometimes cause. I used to get this & it was so annoying. When I use this it stops that irritating cough on contact. Love!
Tea Tree
Apply 1 drop Tea Tree & 1 drop Lavender directly to any bug bites, rashes, cuts, scrapes, or bruises. Tea Tree is our first aid oil. And unlike using other things, it doesn't sting when applied. Both Tea Tree & Lavender are mild enough to be applied to even small children without dilution.
OnGuard
This is our go-to oil if anyone starts to feel under the weather (& my husband is a pediatrician). For adults or teens have them swallow a drop, followed by a cup of water. For your littles who may not like the flavor (the Clove in it can be a little spicy for them) dilute 1 drop with a little fractionated coconut oil & rub on the bottoms of the feet, then slip a pair of socks on.
