Using Essential Oils to Maximize Your Workouts!
Did your health resolutions fall by the wayside at the end of January like most people? Super common, right?
But here's the thing. It really is true that happiness is in your journey, not your destination. If you can learn to find joy in the little things you're doing RIGHT each day you'll be much happier than if you get down on yourself for falling short of your goal.
With that in mind, I want to give you a few tips today on how to use essential oils to help with your workouts. That way you can maximize your results.
Don't give up on yourself. Push the reset button today & put your health first.
Top Oils to Maximize Exercise Results
Grapefruit, Lemon, Tangerine, or Wild Orange:
Citrus oils can help you feel rejuvenated, refreshed, & energized ... perfect for kicking off a powerful workout. Add 1-2 drops to a glass of water or your stainless steel water bottle. If you're at home, try putting 3 drops of any of these oils in your diffuser to run while your working out.
Lemongrass:
One thing lemongrass is known for is its energizing properties. Inhale a bit of lemongrass combined with any of your favorite citrus oils for an invigorating boost.
This zesty & fragrant essential oil is also known to relieve muscle pain. Dr. Josh Axe recommends rubbing it directly into your muscles. Make sure to use a carrier oil for this since Lemongrass is considered a "hot" oil, & can irritate your skin if applied alone. My favorite carrier for Lemongrass is Deep Blue Rub (see further down).
Peppermint:
Swallow a drop with a glass of water before beginning your workout.
This gives you more energy & also keeps lactic acid from building up as quickly (that keeps you from getting so sore! Yay!).
This fresh scented oil has great healing properties on the body. Add a drop to water to reap its calming benefits, or rub it onto your muscles for a bit of topical relief when you're cooling down from a hard gym session.
Lavender:
Combat the stress & begin your relaxing cooldown practice by adding some lavender to your stretching session. Put a drop on your yoga mat, or rub a drop onto your chest where you'll smell it easily. By cooling down with this oil, you'll help bring cortisol levels down in the body (reducing cortisol levels helps your body keep from retaining excess fat).To spot treat blemishes
Eucalyptus:
Need to support your breathing? This can help. Eucalyptus is also known for supporting discomfort in your muscles after a workout. Another great post-workout use? Add a little bit of oil to a cool, wet washcloth & press it to your face to support redness.Balance hormones for hormone related acne
Deep Blue Stick:
This essential oil blend is MAGIC! It's clinically proven to reduce pain & tension in muscles. Give it about 5 minutes to work. SO AMAZING! This is an absolute fave at our house & is always out on our counter so my husband & kids can grab it whenever needed. We also love the Deep Blue Rub…if I can't find it I can pretty much count on my husband having snagged it😉
