"Mom, I think I'm going to throw up!"
Top 3 Essential Oils for Motion Sickness
With summer upon us, we are looking forward to some vacation time.
I don't know about you, but the statement in the picture above is all too common when our family is on the road. If I’m forced to admit it...much of the time it’s probably my fault. #leadfoot
My husband is much better than me at slowing way down when the road gets curvy - for the benefit of those in the back seats.
Me...I just want to get there. I’m typically not a huge fan of long car rides. Just get me to the destination already. :) Probably why my husband volunteers to drive on the windy parts. Ha!
Essential oils have been AMAZINGLY helpful during our road trips. I carry a keychain that holds 8 small vials of whichever oils or blends that I choose to fill them with. One of those vials carries the combination of Ginger + Frankincense. You could also try ginger alone.
If anyone in my family gets a queasy stomach, we’ll take a drop & wash it down with some water. Many times, it’s enough just to hold the bottle right under your nose & take some deep breaths until the queasy feeling subsides.
Since motion sickness is an inner ear problem, many people find it helpful to rub a little of the above combo right behind their ears.
The DigestZen blend is another popular oil to use. It contains Ginger, Peppermint, Caraway, Coriander, Anise, Cardamom, & Fennel. These herbs have been used for hundreds of years to calm queasy tummies. I will say if you have anyone in your family who does not like black licorice (that would be ME), they’ll probably not take kindly to swallowing a drop of this.
They can either do what I do (wash it down with some water, which you want to do anyway whenever you take an oil internally), or they can rub it on their belly or around their ear, or simply smell the oil straight from the bottle if they don't mind the smell too much.
Either way, this is another great way to support that uneasy feeling.
So don't forget your oils when you take that car, plane, or boat trip - or even a trip on a crazy roller coaster...so mad that as an adult roller coasters make me sick! I still ride them anyway though.
Do you have any essential oil tips or tricks that work for your family? I’d love to hear about them in the comments so I can try them too! What’s your favorite?
