Top 11 Ways to use Peppermint Essential Oil

Peppermint is one of the most popular essential oils, & can be used dozens of different ways. I use it almost daily + always carry it with me when I'm away from home.

My all time favorite yummy way to use Peppermint is to add 8 drops to any brownie recipe before baking…it makes them taste like Girl Scout Thin Mint cookies! 🍪

Peppermint oil blends well with Grapefruit, Tangerine, & Wild Orange essential oils. It's found in doTERRA's:

  • PastTense (Tension Blend)

  • MetaPWR (Metabolic Blend)

  • Deep Blue (Soothing Blend)

  • DigestZen (Digestive Blend)

  • AromaTouch (Massage Blend)

  • & Breathe (Respiratory Blend)

It really is a jack of all trades!

doTERRA’s Peppermint has a high menthol content, which can support the respiratory system when ingested, & promotes clear breathing. When taken internally it also promotes proper digestion, helping to alleviate occasional stomach upset & other digestive complaints. It’s frequently used in toothpaste & chewing gum for its oral hygiene qualities. Did you know it’s also a natural bug repellant?

PEPPERMINT ESSENTIAL OIL

Head Tension

Rub 1 drop of peppermint on the back of the neck, temples, or forehead.

Energy & Focus

Diffuse 3 drops of peppermint + 3 drops of wild orange.

Increase exercise performance

Before a workout, place 1 drop of peppermint on the tongue. Researchers found that 1 drop of peppermint taken internally before a workout increased exercise performance & respiratory function variables (click here to see one of the many studies on this). How amazing is that?!

Upset stomach or indigestion

Rub 1 drop over the stomach, or place 1 drop on the tongue & then drink a glass of water.

Motion sickness

Open the bottle & put it close to your nose & inhale + exhale deeply for about 30 seconds. I always bring peppermint when I'm flying because I just never know if any extra turbulence is going to unsettle my stomach. Works like a charm!

For clear breathing

Rub 1 drop of peppermint over the sinuses or over the lungs. When rubbing peppermint on the face, be careful not to get too close to the eyes, as it will make your eyes water.

For cooling an overheated body

Rub 1-2 drops of peppermint up & down the spine.

For fresh breath (better for you than gum)

Place 1 drop of peppermint on the tongue. Chewing gum keeps your digestive system constantly active (not good). Use Peppermint to freshen your breath instead.

Peppermint cookies, brownies, ice cream, or milkshakes

I'll use about 5 drops in cookie batter or ice cream, 1-2 drops in ice cream for a Peppermint milkshake, or 8 drops in brownie batter for a fun peppermint flavor! This makes brownies taste like Girls Scout Thin Mint cookies!

To support the respiratory system & seasonal sneezing/itchy eyes

Combine 20 drops peppermint, 20 drops lemon, 20 drops lavender, 20 drops breathe, 20 drops Tea Tree & 20 drops frankincense in a 10ml glass roller ball & top with fractionated coconut oil. Swipe the blend over the sinuses &/or feet 2x a day. I normally have terrible sneezing & itchy eyes in the spring & fall, but haven't dealt with that for years now since discovering this blend!

To soothe achy joints or muscles

Fill the bath with warm water & 1 cup of epsom salts + 3 drops of peppermint. Soak for 20 minutes.
